So not too long ago you got a great job and you were earning good money. You found an amazing partner and decided to spend the rest of your lives together. You were living the DINK dream (Double Income No Kids) and did everything your hearts desired. Fast forward 5-10 years and you’re now a full blown family. Between the early mornings, late nights, school fees, sports, endless birthday parties and family holidays you’ve lost track of your own finances. Money goes… somewhere… and there’s never much left at the end of the month. No wonder money is the number 1 cause of stress in Australia.
If that sounds familiar, you’re like many of my clients: Hard-working, on the hunt for that mythical creature called work-life balance and you’re sure that your finances could be in much better shape. I call this financial disorganisation and I see it in 95% of people who walk through my door.
So the first thing I do with my clients, is take them through a process of getting financially organised. This means we’re going to go through all the bits and pieces – that super fund you’ve had since you worked retail in high school, the super fund you have now and still don’t understand, that life insurance policy you took out with your mortgage, that Will you’ve been meaning to write for the past 8 years, those speccy shares you bought from a hot tip, that home loan you haven’t reviewed since you got it.
Imagine for a moment how you would feel if your finances were organised and everything made sense. Your investments and super structured correctly to accumulate the wealth you want for the long term, your debts efficiently and effectively being paid down, your Will and insurances covering you if the worst were to happen. That’s what I call financial organisation and it’s my starting point for every client.
The good news for you is I’m a certified solver of knotty problems (full disclosure: the certificate was from my Primary school in year 3). So all you have to do is hand me the paperwork and let me get to work.
